The CI freshwater team has arrived at World Water Week 2010! This meeting, organized by the Stockholm International Water Institute, brings together water experts, practitioners, decision-makers and leaders from around the globe to exchange ideas, foster new thinking and develop solutions to freshwater issues. This year’s theme is “Responding to Global Changes: The Water Quality Challenge.” Our group will contribute to the exploration of this topic by convening sessions, side events and promoting CI’s freshwater initiative by:
- Profiling our portfolio of work in freshwater biodiversity, ecosystem management, service provision/valuation, and climate change adaptation.
- Forming collaborations with partners.
- Supporting the biodiversity agenda in the Environmental Flows Network and working on climate change adaptation.
We anticipate a busy but exciting week, and hope to do our part to spread the message of the importance of healthy ecosystems to human well-being. Valuing and ensuring the productivity of these ecosystems are essential to securing freshwater flows for nature and for people, both now and in the future.
Colleen Vollberg is the manager of CI’s Freshwater Initiative.
