As president of Conservation International since 1989, Russ Mittermeier is the only active field biologist to head an international conservation organization. Once described as "the Indiana Jones of conservation," he is regarded as a world leader in tropical forest conservation, with particular expertise in the fields of primates and reptiles. Russ has published more than 500 scientific and popular articles and 15 books. He has also served as chairman of the IUCN’s Primate Specialist Group since 1977.
