Senior Director, Agribusiness + Food Security
John Buchanan has been at CI for over 15 years in several different roles focused on food and agriculture. Following a two-year assignment focused on developing CI's institutional food security strategy, he recently returned to CI's Center for Environmental Leadership in Business (CELB) where he is focusing on development and implementation of sustainable agriculture and supply chain initiatives. Previously, he managed CI’s partnerships with major food and agribusiness companies including Bunge, Cargill and McDonald’s, focused on issues including soy production in Brazil, oil palm in Southeast Asia, and development of corporate environmental strategies and supply chain tools for improved environmental stewardship in food value chains. John has also managed initiatives focused on non-timber forest products and smallholder cocoa agroforestry in West Africa. He is a co-organizer of the Landscapes for People Food and Nature Initiative, and previously served on the Steering Committee of the Keystone Field to Market Initiative. John came to CI from the private sector, where he worked for six years in the food packaging industry.
